This course argues for the necessity of feminist analytics in analyzing the intersectional stakes and transnational affordances of genomic and algorithmic data sets. We address questions from feminist and queer thought through platform studies, science and technology studies, big data, and social media using creative scholarly production. Our case studies demonstrate the necessity of transnational components and historical acuity for online literacies, as we discuss the stake of the Global North's historical dominance of cultural and informational hierarchies in arenas ranging from genome testing and social media platforms to the multilingual uptake and potentially illicit spread of transnational popular media.
