GWSS graduate student, Yiyu Tian, has received a China Studies Program research grant for her project “The Female Body and Labor Mobilization—Menstruation Leave in China, the History and Present.” For this pilot dissertation research, she will continue fieldwork with The Green Rose (an NGO supporting migrant workers in Shenzhen), do archival research in Nanjing and Shanghai on the socialist history of menstruation leave from the 1920s on, and conduct oral history interviews with female oil workers in Daqing who entered the labor force in the 1960s and 70s.
