Congratulations to Christina (Yuen Zi) Chung, who has just returned from Hong Kong where she was helping launch an important new book for which she is major contributor. Creating Across Cultures: Women in the Arts from China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan features profiles of sixteen women whose work has at some time in their careers been supported by the Asian Cultural Council. The featured artists include groundbreaking writers, choreographers, musicians, composers, visual artists, filmmakers, and more.
Christina is author of chapters on Liao Wen, one of the first writers in the PRC to focus on women artists and feminist art criticism, and Lulu Shur-Tzy Hou, a Taiwanese conceptual feminist artist. It is a beautiful book, with gorgeous color images, and I look forward to using it in my Global Feminist Art class! Columbia University Press will distribute the book in the U.S. when it is released here later this year.
