Ethnography & Design: Mutual Provocations. A CoLED (Collaboratory for Ethnographic Design) Conference, University of California San Diego, October 27-29, 2016.

Ethnography & Design: Mutual Provocations is an international conference presenting invited speakers from around the world in a series of curated roundtables, interactive workshops, and multimedia and performance works.

The conference theme takes up the variation and disjuncture that academic ethnographers find in the concepts of design and ethnography.

When ethnographers talk about design, are they offering a critique of a practice as complicit with global capitalism? Building new and innovative modes of integrating ethnographic practice with collaborative maker-practice? Or exploring innovations in research design that engage digital, visual, and performative formats?

The conference brings ethnographers working in all of these modes together for a series of curated, provocative conversations.
