BLACK FOODWAYS THIS COURSE WILL EXAMINE THE ORIGIN AND PRACTICE OF BLACK FOODWAYS IN THE US WITHIN A BLACK FEMINIST FRAMEWOR USING TEXTS THROUGH ACADEMIC AND NONACADEMIC WRITERS WHO DESCRIBE THEMSELVES USING DIFFERENT (AND AT TIMES OVERLAPPING) TITLES, INCLUDING: RESEARCHER, PUBLIC SCHOLAR, JOURNALIST, FOOD WRITER, MEMOIRIST, ACTIVIST, AND ADVOCATE. WE WILL EXPLORE THE OFTEN OVERLOOKED CONTRIBUTIONS OF BLACK PEOPLE TO TH CURRENT AMERICAN CULINARY LANDSCAPE THE IMPORTANT ROLE OF SPACE AND PLACE IN THE CREATION OF BLACK FOOD AND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BLACK FOOD AND SEXUALITY/CLASS/GENDER DYNAMICS. WE WILL CRITICALLY INTERROGATE FOOD AS A SOCIOCULTURAL MEDIUM AND A SIGNIFIER OF PERSONAL IDENTITY WHILE ARTICULATING HOW FOO LITERACIES SITUATE DIFFERENT SPACE, IDENTITIES, AND FORMS OF KNOWLEDGE.
