Explores medieval European conceptions of gender, sex, and sexuality. Topics include normative Christian views of gender and sexuality, as well as forms of gender expression and sexuality that the Church condemned and attempted to police; legislative efforts to enforce gender and sexual norms; medieval understandings of non-binary and intersex bodies; and ideas about love and marriage.
