Beginning Monday, March 13, GWSS will be hosting a food drive to benefit the UW Food Pantry, which aims to address student, staff, and faculty food insecurity at the University of Washington head on. The Pantry is a safe space for those who struggle to access food because of financial or other challenges, and it is open to UW faculty, staff, and students with an active Husky ID.
Items will be collected in a bin outside GWSS's main office (PDL B110) during regular office hours (9-4:30 M-Th); the drive will run until Friday, April 14.
Items the Pantry especially needs are:
- Stocks, bases, and sauces
- Food appropriate for diverse diets, including halal, kosher, gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, etc.
- Canned tomatoes, soup & chili
- Cooking oils
- Vegetable broth
- Canned meats, fruits & vegetables
- Oatmeal and granola
- Boxed milk, evaporated milk, and unsweetened alternative milks
- Fruit preserves and spreads
- Boxed mac + cheese, other ready-to-eat meals
- Feminine hygiene products
- Jars of baby food
- Household Items (e.g. bar soap, toilet paper, paper towel)
If you're interested in giving, but you are not on campus, the UW Food Pantry also accepts donations online.
