Anna Zhao Awarded Chester Fritz Fellowship for Research on Medicalized Childbirth in China

Submitted by Whitney Miller on

The Department of Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies is thrilled to announce that Anna Zhao, a Ph.D. student in the department, has received a Graduate School Chester Fritz International Research and Study Fellowship. This one-quarter grant provides support to UW graduate students doing research that takes place outside of the United States. Anna plans to conduct ethnographic and archival research on the history of medicalized childbirth in China. Her critical historiography will examine official records and women’s memories narrative through oral histories to reveal gaps and silences and bring Chinese women’s everyday experiences into transnational feminist inquiry on the gendered body, pain, affect, and biopolitics.

Kudos, Anna!
