Congratulations to Madhavi Murty for receiving the prestigious Outstanding Book Award from the International Communication Association (ICA) for her debut book, Stories that Bind: Political Economy and Culture in New India (Rutgers University Press, 2022). Murty's exceptional work has been recognized by the ICA, an organization that aims to encourage excellence in academic research and advance the scholarly study of human communication worldwide.

In Stories that Bind, Murty meticulously examines the interplay of authoritarian nationalism and neoliberalism, both bolstered by state authority, contending that contemporary India is best understood at the intersection of these two forces. Her insightful analysis and rigorous research shed light on the intricate dynamics and narratives that shape the political economy and culture of New India.

Madhavi Murty holds a PhD in Communication and a Graduate Certificate in Feminist Studies from the University of Washington. She currently serves as an Associate Professor of Feminist Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Once again, heartfelt congratulations to Madhavi on this remarkable achievement!
