Known as the 'Doc of Choc' for her dedicated work in examining the politics of the international chocolate industry, Kristy Leissle earned her Ph.D. from the University of Washington's Department of Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies (formerly the Women Studies Department) in 2008. Her expertise was recently featured on John Oliver's Last Week Tonight during the 'Chocolate' episode, which aired on October 29, 2023.
