We are thrilled to announce that two of our PhD candidates and one faculty member have been selected for the Society of Scholars Fellowships from the Simpson Center for the Humanities for the 2025-26 academic year.
Assistant Professor Kavita Dattani has been awarded a Research Fellowship to support her project, A Suitable Sexuality: Leisure, Pleasure and Dating Apps in India. Her research explores how dating apps in India intersect with leisure and evolving cultural norms, offering critical insights into the shifting landscapes of intimacy and pleasure.
Saad Khan, PhD Candidate, will participate in the Society of Scholars as part of his work on Nascent Moves: Loss, Desire, In/Visible LGBTQ Resistances in Bangladesh. His research examines LGBTQ activism and identity in Bangladesh, focusing on the complex interplay of resistance, visibility, and desire.
Nastasia Paul-Gera, PhD Candidate, has received summer support for her project, Making Tiger Country: Gender, Species, and State Power in Satpura Tiger Reserve. Her work investigates the intersections of gender, species, and state power in conservation spaces. As part of her award, she will join the 2025 summer cohort of the Society of Scholars.
The Society of Scholars brings together humanists from diverse backgrounds and disciplines to engage deeply with each other’s work. Each year, the program awards fellowships to support faculty and dissertation research, fostering a vibrant community of scholarly exchange.
