We are pleased to congratulate Professor Michelle Habell-Pallán on her award of a Simpson Center for for the Humanities Society of Scholars Fellowship for 2026–27.
The Society of Scholars fellowship will support the completion of Michelle’s monograph, Chicanxfuturisms: Punk’s “Algo Rhythm” and the Sonic Practices of Convivencia and Cultural Citizenship. The project explores how Chicanx punk traditions defy surveillance and detention while forging new forms of resistance, belonging, and cultural citizenship.
By mapping “resonant zones” of resilience through feminist theory, sonic analysis, ethnography, oral histories, and AI ethics, Michelle illuminates how sound itself becomes a site of community and future-making for Chicanx and undocumented communities.
This is an incredibly important and timely project, and we are thrilled to see this critical work supported. Please join us in congratulating Michelle on this well-deserved honor.
