GWSS knows that our departmental staff are the best in the business — now the entire campus knows! Whitney Miller was honored at the 2026 Distinguished Staff Awards this winter.
Miller joined the department in 2021 as Program Coordinator and Graduate Program Advisor, stepping into the role during COVID. From the start, she brought a rare combination of administrative expertise, creative thinking, and genuine investment in the department's intellectual life — approaching every aspect of her work not just as administrative management, but as an expression of GWSS's commitments to feminist pedagogy and collaborative governance. Her ability to anticipate needs, build systems that flex without breaking, and bring people along in the process has been transformative for us.
The effects of Miller's work are visible across every dimension of departmental life: in the clarity and efficiency of our internal operations, in the strength of our communications and public presence, and in the sense of shared community she has helped to rebuild and sustain. She is a thoughtful, long-range thinker who brings both rigor and warmth to her role; her contributions extend well beyond what any job description (or this short piece of writing) could capture. We’ll just say that GWSS is a much stronger, more visible, and more connected department because of her!!
