We're thrilled to share the good news that Yingyi Wang, who is on track to receive her PhD from GWSS by the end of Spring quarter, has just officially accepted a tenure-track job as Assistant Professor of Gender and Sexuality Studies at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. What a trajectory: from Guandong province (Canton) in Southern China to Canton in the US Northeast!

Yingyi’s research on the intertwined political, economic, and affective precarity experienced by workers in gender equity, sex worker, and LGBT rights NGOs in China contributes so much to debates about transnational feminisms, while challenging Western-centric queer and sexuality scholarship and activism. Her dissertation, Cruel Activism, weaves the lives and stories of NGO workers and those they serve, together with an analysis of the constraints of nation-state and transnational governance they must continually negotiate in order to reproduce their own economic and emotional ability to do the work they are committed to. Yingyi will bring so much as a colleague, researcher, and teacher to St. Lawrence, and we’ll have another UW GWSS ambassador on the east coast.

Congratulations Yingyi!!
