With this launch of our newsletter, we hope to reconnect with students, alumni, faculty, and friends of Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies. The last two years — of teaching and learning, research and writing, and building bridges between scholarship and activism — under pandemic conditions have been hard and often isolating. As we begin to gradually emerge and reconnect, please let us know what you have been up to! We encourage you visit our Stay Connected page and to send us an update.
More Than 50 Years Strong
When we gathered in the Walker Ames Room in Kane Hall to celebrate the 45th Anniversary of the Department in November 2015, we could never have imagined that the 50th Anniversary event we were building toward would take place online. Yet, in spite of it all, under the leadership of Shirley Yee and with the hard work of many, GWSS celebrated its 50th Anniversary in April 2021 with a series of virtual events. If you missed all or any of these great talks and panels, which brought together colleagues and alumni across generations, you can watch recordings via links on our GWSS Celebrates 50 Years page, including Dr. Beverly Guy-Sheftall’s keynote “Say Her Name: The Urgency of Black Feminism Now” and a short documentary on the history of the department.
