From November 12–16, GWSS faculty, students, and alumni gathered in San Juan for the annual National Women’s Studies Association (NWSA) conference, an event that highlights the state of the field of gender, women’s, and sexuality studies and centers feminist research. This year’s conference—“An Honour Song: Feminist Struggles, Feminist Victories”—brought together thousands of scholars and activists to explore evolving priorities and urgent issues, including Puerto Rican and decolonial feminisms, radical resistance, and the shifting political landscape.
UW faculty and alumni represented the Department of Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies and shared information about our graduate program with prospective students. On November 21, two GWSS faculty members and one alum—each a scholar working in the field—facilitated a community discussion reflecting on the conference and the insights they gained.
We look forward to continuing conversations about the changing state of the field.
